La Murtra was an important focus of Renaissance humanism and had an important library already in the 15th century. It was the result of donations, inheritances, purchases or copies made by the very same monks.
This library and archive disappeared during the arson of 1835. Some of the books that were saved are kept today in libraries and national archives.
Presently, the library is located in the same place as the previous one and it includes several modern collections, among which those of Bishop Joan Carrera and Josep M. Riera stand out.
